Low grade diet induced acidosis has emerged as a clinically significant risk factor for increased bone resorption, hypertension and kidney stone formation, and it may also adversely affect muscle function and insulin sensitivity. Supplementation with the alkaline mineral citrate complexes found in AlkaCare pH has been shown to normalize the acidosis caused by a Western diet, and improve markers of bone turnover as well as bone mineral density, an effect directly associated with a reduction in urinary net acid excretion. The minerals in AlkaCare pH are bound to citrate, not only to increase their absorption, but because citrate itself has direct alkalinizing affects and reduces the risk of kidney stone formation. Dosage
2 scoops per day dissolved in water or as directed by a health care practitioner. Take one hour before or two hours after meals or medications.
Contraindications
Patients with impaired renal function should only use potassium/magnesium supplements under medical supervision.
Additional Information
Supplementation with potassium increases the risk for hyperkalemia when given with several types of medications used to treat hypertension, such as diuretics and ACE inhibitors. Bisphosphonates should not be taken within 2 hours of calcium or magnesium supplements, which reduce their absorption. Calcium also interferes with the absorption of other drugs, including levothyroxine, diuretics, quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, and several drugs used to treat atrial fibrillation. AlkaCare pH contains nutrients known to lower blood pressure in those with hypertension, and may require a dosage reduction in related medications.
